The Gemini New Moon Newsletter✨
Happy New Moon, witches!
Lilac season has come and gone here in the Adirondacks and for this Green Witch, that means that the work is pretty much done; my herbs are potted and adjusting to their new digs, seedlings are starting to emerge all over the property, and our front perennial garden is lush, thriving and about to explode with color, vibrancy and the enigmatic aroma of summer! In celebration of purchasing the house, we planted night-blooming jasmine by the mailbox — a universal sign that a witch occupies the residence — and now, it’s time to kick back, relax, & allow Nature to do Her thing!
I’m hoping that your Taurus Season was as fruitful & productive as mine; with Gemini Season now breezing in, it’s time to gather, innovate, exchange ideas, & shake off the staleness and stagnancy of winter. I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely ready for this delightful change of pace!
Here is your astrology update for the next four weeks. Tell me: what are you manifesting this Gemini New Moon?
Thursday, June 6th. Today’s New Moon in Gemini is conjunct the moment’s stellium in the sign of the twins (Jupiter, Mercury and Venus are all also here), harmonizing with Pluto in Aquarius and the Nodes but square Saturn in Pisces. Even in her new phase, Saturn square the moon is a notorious astrological downer – I’m not sure if mundane annoyances like parking tickets, tax obligations, dental dilemmas and joint pain are any more likely to occur during this transit but if they do, they feel decidedly weightier and more difficult to overlook. Thankfully, the New Moon phase lacks the drama and complexity of the Full Moon and the highly benefic Venus/Sun conjunction outshines this usually morose astrology: regardless of any looming melancholic factors, expect the breezy fresh-start potential of an unafflicted Gemini New Moon. With this many planets in the sign of the Twins, others are generally more adaptable, open-minded, cooperative and impressed by eloquence – true, we can’t talk our way out Saturnian dilemmas but if we’re well-spoken and/or up to speed on the latest intel, it’s only helpful – while Venus in Gemini is a sociable peacemaker, so we’re all less likely to hold grudges, to take offence to things or even to dwell on minor annoyances. With Pluto forming a friendly aspect to today’s New Moon (and still synergized to Jupiter), we can conjure the resilience, passion, focus and/or transformational power to persevere through any irritating influences, while Jupiter augments Venus and Mercury here (i.e. movement, options, charisma, flexibility, spaciousness.) It’s a fab New Moon for tending to our relationships and social life – i.e. networking, introducing new dialogue or moving toward agreements and/or solutions within strained bonds – and it’s also the kind of New Moon under which we can accidentally arrive at fresh conclusions or perspectives and establish new mindsets, mantras and/or communication strategies without trying to. If you are timing spell-work today, work with this energy to launch a diplomacy initiative, to manifest the “right” people and/or contacts, to move stagnant energy and build momentum or to infuse a relationship, concept or situation with spaciousness, levity and open-mindedness. Don’t ignore any relevant metrics, data or details – this is a sure-fire way to accrue messiness with anything square Saturn – but consider whether asking for flexibility from others or embodying it yourself can help you navigate any emerging pragmatic dilemmas. If you’d like to declare a new belief, mindset or intention, yes — if it relates to something Venusian (your relationships, aesthetic, values, finances or art) the timing is perfect.
Saturday, June 8th. Yes, Venus is transiting flirty, lighthearted Gemini but she squares stern Saturn in Pisces today; this transit influences the 48-hour window on both sides of the exact alignment and is an objectively bad time to schedule a first (or second) date. Venus square Saturn is a known trigger for the insecurities, neuroses, or annoyingly pragmatic perspectives we hold regarding the Venusian areas of life including our style, physical appearance, finances, art, and relationships. Many of us experience this transit by becoming transfixed on our so-called “flaws”, past failures or even outside factors like limited time, resources or a small dating pool. The best way to work with this transit is to either a.) engage with the Venusian realms in a zero-pressure capacity which won’t trigger a pessimistic perspective – by snuggling an animal, gardening, getting a massage or even swiping and (casual) flirting through the comfort of a screen – or b.) to actively work with this transit as a period of deliberate planning and restructuring. It’s conducive for tending to the administrative side of relationships, creativity or abundance, inviting us to re-consider our boundaries, deal-breakers and protocol with stark Saturnine pragmatism. This might look like budgeting, financial planning or scaling back excessive spending, re-committing to clean eating, assessing the durability of an early-stage fling, or even creating boundaries or implementing a schedule around your art, intimacy or relationships (and checking in with any partner(s) regarding theirs.) It’s inherently not sensual but this transit doesn’t have to force us into feeling frustrated about our body type or the flimsiness of a budding romance – to mitigate this, avoid known triggers of your Venusian insecurities (i.e. social media, dating apps, offensive dressing room lighting, a problematic ex or nagging parent, etc.) and for those triggers which are impossible/unhealthy to avoid like food, money and relationships, actively seek to adjust the way you show up in those moments.
Sunday, June 9th. The Sun squares Saturn today, continuing the drab, melancholy astro-vibe of yesterday. It manifests as mundane irritants and a feeling of limited spaciousness, resources or support – looming deadlines apply more pressure than usual, financial restraints or unpaid debt feel extra oppressive and generally, it can be difficult during this transit to feel creative or to conjure the confidence, empowerment and charisma we usually channel effortlessly. Helpfully, Mercury harmonizes with the Nodes today which brings ideas, dialogue, clarity and truth, probably inspired by newly introduced facts, perspectives or discoveries on a past event, situation or relationship. It doesn’t dispel the moment’s invitation into Saturnian melancholy but it’s something – likely, we won’t realize how impactful the realization was until the clouds part around the 14th. Mars also enters Taurus today until July 20th and during this transit, we experience the most success when we adopt a builder mindset. Fast hacks and short-cuts aren’t likely to prove as satisfying as deliberate effort, right-timing and outstaying less resilient opponents and if there’s a downside to this transit, it’s that others are much more likely to dig in – our territorial instincts are heightened while feuds or disputes initiated during this transit have staying power and should be opted into carefully. But the innate gifts of this six-week transit are many: with so many planets in Gemini, the vibe is almost excessively heady and cerebral while Mars in Taurus adds a tactile element of grounded sensuality. Our physical senses and appetites are trustworthy and heightened, and any alliances conceived during this transit are stable. The secret weapon to success over the next few weeks? Conserving your energy – it might feel like you’re falling behind but if you bide your time now, you’ll be hitting major milestones by July 20th while everyone else is losing steam.
Tuesday, June 11th. Mars squares Pluto just days after moving into Taurus, a tense configuration and a known catalyst for conflict. On the plus side, it potentially regenerates: this is the kind of astro under which we can finally face a known problem head-on or admit a difficult truth to ourselves, kick an addiction (especially with Mars in Taurus) or power through limits. It’s best to avoid turbulent people or touchy topics throughout the few days surrounding the exact square, but if confrontation is necessary during this window, be prepared for an eruptive response – even from usually “chill” characters -- and know that already-uneasy relationships are even more susceptible to conflict than usual. Otherwise, think heightened resolve, accentuated willpower and rad realizations and don’t expect others to be flexible or nonchalant. Channel this energy into cool, elating or transformative feats which require the self-determination and inner strength we can more easily access now: pulling longer hours to achieve lofty financial goals, hitting a new stride at the gym or solving a mystery it genuinely benefits you to uncover are well-timed to today’s astro.
Wednesday, June 12th. Mercury squares Saturn today which is another irritating astrology signature. It’s a time where unpleasant realizations, morose thinking or oppressive dialogue (i.e. someone tries to initiate a conversation you’d rather put off, or they introduce irksome details with obnoxious glee) can wreak havoc. Because Mercury governs our daily affairs and movements, an imminent time/money crunch or a moment of insecurity are also common side effects. While productive, today’s Virgo moon could accentuate our instinct to spiral over minor irks and micro-irritants, but it also holds the key to navigating this objective downer of a configuration via a solution-oriented, practical approach. We all enjoy heightened efficiency/productivity levels during the two-ish days each month when the moon transits this earthy mutable sign and with Luna here until the 14th, we can tackle annoying tasks we’d usually avoid altogether with vigor, enthusiasm and even aplomb. Scheduling appointments, reaching out to helpful contacts, trimming back on excess and organizing/troubleshooting are all supported by the Virgo Moon, allowing us to navigate the Mercury/Saturn square productively and pragmatically (and in the window of Mars square Pluto, we have heightened resolve, stamina and willpower which amps the intensity/edginess of any irritating factors but ultimately helps us triumph and transform through them.)
Friday, June 14th. Mercury is always relatively close to the sun but today, the Messenger God forms an exact conjunction to the big hot star – it’s ideal for significant clarity, movement, revelations and dialogue as well as breezy, open-minded communication (especially when the two “planets” are aligned in Gemini.) If you’ve been wanting to initiate an important conversation but didn’t want to time it to the gnarly Mercury and Saturn square or the turbulent Mars square to Pluto? Open dialogue today for optimal results (and don’t be surprised if the other person approaches first and if you’ve been waiting for a response, it probably comes now.)
Sunday, June 16th. Venus squares Neptune today – think magick, sensuality, synchronicity and accentuated artistic/spiritual acumen but also classically deception, beguilement, and a strong inclination to view situations through a Neptunian glamour haze. It’s an astrological indicator to keep strong boundaries firmly in place – known vampiric people can come out of the woodwork seeking a favor, a second chance or simply an opportunity to “plug in” to our energy or resources – and it’s an objectively sound time to avoid risky financial or relationship gestures, addictive substances or behaviors, and known boundary violators or con-people. Generally, it’s not the best time to make long-term decisions or big investments with our heart or finances – likely, we’re not seeing the full situation clearly and are more susceptible during this transit to trickery, our own wishful thinking or a misunderstanding – but instead, utilize this astro as a time to nourish the body, mind and spirit via Venusian self-care (glamour, beauty, intimacy, goddess work, etc.)
Monday, June 17th. Yes, Mercury is emphasized in his home sign of Gemini but he’s now squaring ethereal Neptune – we might think we’re being transparent, but others perceive us as murky or vague around this date, and it can be difficult to arrive at concrete conclusions or fully-realized ideas/concepts. This dreamy configuration is less than ideal for a.) initiating a clarifying follow-up or seeking solutions around anything detail-oriented or pragmatic – in fact, you’d probably depart from the conversation more confused than you were when it started – and b.) compromising your boundaries. It’s irrelevant whether this disorienting aspect motivates people to be more manipulative or if it simply makes us more susceptible to charm, as we’re more likely to reveal too much too soon, to readily offer empathy and/or to behave in an overly fond way toward people we’d usually have our guard up around. Regardless, know this and carry a protective crystal (like Black Tourmaline) to ward off any vibe vampire types and to keep your energy boundaries firm and psychically secure. Aside from the potential for misunderstandings, disillusionment and/or beguilement (it’s also not recommended to sign contracts under this astro), there are benefits – Mercury square Neptune is good for cool, surreal insights and strange, non-linear conversations which evoke deeper inspiration and meaningful wisdom. And don’t forget to record your dreams today – the rad symbolism, (seemingly) random appearances and intuitive guidance found therein holds relevant insight (for support, tuck some dried mugwort and a Scolecite under the pillow.) Venus and Mercury are always close to one another, but they form an exact conjunction today as each planet squares Neptune in the later degrees of Pisces and then moves into Cancer. A conjunction between Mercury and Venus animates creative passions and accentuates verbal intimacy within developing and established romances; it also brings the possibility of unexpected connections made through new intel, synchronicity and sudden-onset cerebral rapport. But with Mercury square Neptune, we can easily project baseless meaning upon a situation born of dreamy thinking rather than fact – there are cool romance/creativity developments happening around this date, but we can find ourselves stumbling into a misaligned romance, agreement or artistic scenario if we apply too much magickal thinking. Observe the moment’s relational happenings with bemusement (who reaches out, who you “happen” to run into or feel an accentuated connection with, etc.) but wait to act on anything decisive. Mercury in Cancer until July 2nd (and Venus here until July 11th) supports emotional harmony, security and intimacy in romantic bonds and strengthens our intuition in relationships but lowers our threshold for versatility. If you’re less excited by the idea of swiping and dating multiple people, blame your sudden nesting instincts on this highly primal astro – Venus in Cancer compels us to seek security and familiarity, to cultivate comfort and to return to the basics.
Thursday, June 20th. The sun squares Neptune today right before entering Cancer, officially marking the Summer Solstice here in the Northern Hemisphere. The sun square Neptune continues the theme of nebulosity and mysticism which began last weekend when Venus squared the watery plant of glamour so cloudy thinking, difficulty discerning real cues from figments of our imagination and slippery boundaries are likely to persist through the weekend. I’ll reiterate the Neptunian protocol: A.) don’t push productivity, linear thinking or pragmatism during this transit. If possible, defer mundane matters or administrative obligations to a later date and instead prioritize flow, magick, mysticism, art, beauty, intimacy, self-care, rest and solitude to whatever extent is possible. If you must engage with worldly demands and metrics – which could def emerge with this weekend’s Capricorn Full Moon -- try to find the magick therein or elevate the experience by imbuing it with deeper meaning only you understand. B.) Don’t make long-term decisions or seek clarity during this foggy, nebulous astro. If possible, don’t sign contracts and refrain from making long-term decisions regarding finances, relationships, or anything else which benefits from a hefty dose of critical thinking (which we’re innately lacking now.) C.) Avoid known vibe vampires and people who chronically test your boundaries or use charm to manipulate. They tend to come around during this transit and we benefit from avoiding them altogether but if we must engage with them, ensure your boundaries are firm and clear – a good practice anytime, but especially with Neptune square the sun. D.) It’s not a good time to take a risk – with your heart, finances, whatever – whether that means making an impulsive purchase, giving out first or second chances despite obvious red flags, gambling, etc. It’s also a time to be careful with substances and anything which – to you – has an addictive component or can become toxic. E.) Finally, the benefits of this transit – it’s exceptional for creative breakthroughs, rejuvenation, intimacy and spiritual fulfillment. The plot for your next book wafts in via dreamtime, for example, or examining a marigold cues a spiritual epiphany. Our instincts regarding beauty and glamour are heightened – whether you’re curating a flower arrangement or a playlist, selecting a lip color or an actor for your play, you’re channeling the inspo from a higher source.
Friday, June 21st. Happy Summer Solstice! The sun enters Cancer and opposes the moon in Capricorn, i.e. the Full Moon. Interrupting the window of Neptune square everything, it slices through the moment’s vibe of magick and mysticism with an abrupt, pressing matter or a reality check which demands our attention now. Thankfully, though, it grounds the nebulous tone of the last few days, introducing a needed vibe of pragmatism. This Full Moon rewards the careful conservation of our resources, tenacity, and a cool demeanor (if not a stiff-upper-lip mentality.) At best, Capricorn Full Moons inspire us to fortify and restructure, but they notoriously illuminate our underlying insecurities, accentuate inferiority complexes and highlight the ways we fear we fall short. It works in our favor if we utilize the Full Moon’s vibe of Saturnine severity as a push toward productivity – thankfully, this one harmonizes with Mars in Taurus so we can very effectively alchemize any feelings of inadequacy into actionable goal-setting and deliberate re-shaping. Coinciding with the Summer Solstice, this Full Moon accentuates Cap’s Old Magick wisdom (especially regarding Cancer/Capricorn themes: biz genius, relationship insight as well as home/beauty/security inspo could arrive during this Full Moon or a turning point brings a shift.) But it’s not all magick and mysticism: remember that the Solstices are cosmobiologically intense events, sometimes even causing physical symptoms in sensitive individuals. It’s an objectively bad time for impulse but it is a portal: a natural turning-point, paying attention to what shifts today can bring major payoffs. Mars also harmonizes with Mercury during the Full Moon which inspires passionate, energizing rhetoric and eloquence – in a business deal or negotiation, don’t underestimate your charm, gut instincts and skillful word-craft.
Wednesday, June 26th. Mercury trines Saturn and the Moon in Pisces today, supporting business and relationship ventures, negotiations, discernment, intuition and clear thinking. We can more easily distinguish what’s trendy from what timelessly works for us – for this reason, it’s good astro for finalizing big purchases (or even browsing for denim) or making solid business or relationship decision (especially with Venus square the Nodes, it’s also good for enacting shifts within style or creativity.)
Friday, June 28th. Mercury squares Chiron and the Moon in Aries today, illuminating a wounded mindset, perspective or thought pattern. Likely, dialogue unfolds around this date which seems to affirm a story that we always lose, or a chance meeting activates a disempowering belief system fueled by our deepest core wounding. Self-care and emotional presence are the antidotes, but with both the Moon and Chiron in Aries, it’s motivating astro to stage a comeback.
Saturday, June 29th. First, the downside: Saturn turns retrograde today until November 15th and while this won’t really influence our microcosm for the next four months, the few days which comprise the beginning of the retrograde feel distinctly and oppressively Saturnine: i.e. joint pain can flare up, financial pressure, unpaid debts or deadlines loom more heavily than usual and sudden obligations or mundane annoyances pop up when we just want to sunbathe in a circle of crystals (wait…is that just me?) We thrive during Saturnine astrology when we pay attention to the data and metrics and face our obligations directly, so I wouldn’t recommend putting off/ignoring details but there is good news: Venus harmonizes with Mars today which is some of the most exciting relationship astrology we encounter. If you’re trying to shift your vibe within a romance or conjure a new one, grab your rose quartz wand and conduct that spell-work today (just remember to pay your parking ticket/call the dentist first) – even if you don’t, romance vibes and relationship chemistry are activated. Otherwise, Venus in harmony with Mars is a catalyst for creativity, romance, sparky flirtations, reconnection, healing, and passionate style/artistic developments – with Venus in Cancer, it’s a supportive time to tend to the home as well as our most intimate and familial bonds. Mercury also harmonizes with Uranus today: liberating and innovative, dialogue or realizations which have been on the brink of fruition for a while are now free to fully emerge – they’re likely to materialize at random but don’t dismiss them.
Tuesday, July 2nd. On the Messenger God’s final day in Cancer, Mercury trines Neptune just as the planet of magick and mysticism turns retrograde. This configuration is a strong indication to pay attention to the dreams, signs and synchronicities which emerge around this date -- especially following several days of non-stop Saturnine mundanity – and refreshingly, relying on our intuition and paying attention to the moment’s deeper symbolism can really help us navigate even practical matters wisely. While Neptune retrogrades comprise half the year and are therefore not necessarily of pressing significant throughout their five-ish month duration, the 48 hours surrounding the initial transit are ultra-Neptunian, enhancing dreams, psychic perceptions, metaphysical acumen and imagination (but also deception, victim/martyr dynamics, and projections due to wishful thinking.) The Cancer Sun squares the Moon’s Nodes, adding gravitas, weight and an evocative element to whatever’s unfolding now, while Venus harmonizing with Saturn is stabilizing and supportive, accentuating discernment (which, helpfully, allows us to identify Neptunian hallucinations and mirages more easily) and allowing us to approach matters we’re usually insecure about with a refreshingly level-head. Mercury in Leo until the 25th favors bold hair, big relationship moves/announcements, flamboyantly romantic gestures and fluency within style/creativity/design. We’re more moved than usual by art – film, cinema, music, etc. – and if the Muse hasn’t been coming to your bedside, the vibe is ripe for the creative resurgence you’ve sensed was coming.
Wednesday, July 3rd. It’ the Dark Moon in Gemini and Mercury – freshly into Leo for the next few weeks – squares eruptive Pluto. The Dark Moon – i.e., the 24 – 48 hours leading up to the New Moon – is always rampant with big realizations, deep dialogue and the emergence of our more subtle feelings and perceptions, but this is especially true when Mercury in Leo Opposes Pluto. This astro is intense – additional self-care in whatever way you feel compelled to practice it is recommended to score the regenerative benefits of the Dark Moon– but superficiality won’t be tolerated in our inner or outer dialogues. I’d recommend avoiding known power-trippers or those with whom you have a touchy, eruptive relationship throughout the Dark Moon – they’ll be tested and intensified and especially with Mercury in Leo, drama manufacturers and control divas are more likely to act out – and if we’ve been holding onto any resentments or internalizing frustration, these emotions feel impossible to continue to repress and will likely demand acknowledge around this transit. Ideally, we can self-express without an oppressive amount of Plutonian existential angst – if we own our authenticity, the potential benefits of this Dark Moon include rad realizations, passionate self-expression, heightened perceptions, potent dialogue and regenerated intimacy.
