Pisces Full Moon Newsletter🌕
Happy Full Moon in Pisces and happy Mercury Retrograde!
Yes, Mercury turning retrograde within the Full Moon window is extra whacky (especially given the nuances of this particular retrograde, discussed more fully below) but I actually propose that it has the potential to be quite fun (especially for those who, like us, are in-the-know and work with the astral cues of the moment rather than ignoring them or trying to sneak around them.) Adding to the magick of the moment is the fact that we’re in the midst of a seasonal shift (which, just as dusk and dawn are considered the most powerful times of day and the shoreline is the threshold between land and sea, so too is the subtle gateway from summer to fall an extremely powerful time.) Embrace this beautiful moment, have fun, and remember to keep things light!
Two-Week Astrology Report:
Saturday, September 10th: Today’s Full Moon in Pisces forms a harmonious aspect with Uranus and Pluto and also aligns to Neptune, resulting in an ethereal, numinous and magickal vibe ideal for tarot-card pulling, artistry, intimacy and self-care. It’s a fantastic day for a heart-healing or forgiveness spell, a releasing ritual of any kind or an intentional, magickally-charged ritual bath. Emotions run high with every Pisces Full Moon, but this one’s Uranian frequency adds a welcomed element of old magick, bizarre synchronicity and high-voltage trickster energy (especially with Mercury having just turned retrograde!), but as scenarios turn upside down and yield unexpected results, we’re likely to feel more liberated and empowered than destabilized or disrupted (which can be the case with more abrasive Uranus aspects, especially those which coincide with the time of the Full Moon.) The Pisces Full Moon is always a powerful opportunity to ritualize the completion of a project or cycle or to commemorate a significant moment of closure, but Pluto’s involvement brings a particularly effective rebirth quality to today’s moon whether you’d like to ritualistically conduct an emotional release or exorcism (i.e., writing a letter to an ex and then burning it) or a practical life purge (like deleting old contacts from your phone or de-cluttering the closet.) The only downside of this Full Moon is that it dials up our sensitivity dramatically — people and things which we usually find abrasive or difficult to handle will feel absolutely intolerable today, and it’s best to avoid anything — from people to substances — which propagate a synthetic high, as the Full Moon in Pisces conjures it’s own kind of spiritual high or moon-drunken state, especially for those with heavy Pisces in their chart. Layering substances atop that isn’t catastrophic — there’s no need to skip your usual after-work martini or pre-bedtime glass of vino — but excessive consumption does reduce the creative and spiritual potential of the moment and, for addictive personality types, can lead us into low-vibe Neptunian behaviors (like texting that toxic ex for an ill-planned dopamine hit.) Ideally, you can embrace the moment’s peaked sensitivity by journaling about your feelings in ritual bath or sharing cacao with a lover under moonlight, but if real-life obligations require your attendance, carry a protective crystal like Black Tourmaline to prevent leaky auric drainage and take extra care not to subject yourself to anything too coarse, harsh or unrefined (and if you notice an annoying hyper-sensitivity to suddenly every stimuli, observe your feelings as emotional data — the moment’s vibe-reads are correct, even if hyperbolized — but know that your sudden allergy to anything not in alignment with your own vibration is only temporary and will pass within a few days of the full moon.) And don’t beat yourself up today about ticking items of off your to-do list or completing everyday life tasks with your usual capability and vigor: the vibe is ultra creative and emotional but not so good for real-world progress and the tackling of practical assignments. Today’s only other warning? Technology could act up but if it does, you likely won’t need to call in an expert or spring for that replacement or update. Any tech malfunctions have a magickal, Uranian quality about them today — when you try the eleventh time or go to demonstrate the issue to someone else, it appears that the so-called “problem” has resolved itself.
Sunday, September 11th: The sun trines Uranus, a twice yearly event which liberates an aspect of our identity and helps us express and assert our individuality. It’s a bold yes to making creative offerings, artistic statements, relationship choices and edgy fashion ensembles which hint at the authentic truth of who we are and help us individuate, and with the sun currently in Virgo, we can do this most effectively by looking at the micro-details of our lives, beginning with our everyday systems and routines, and tailoring those to allow for full, unapologetic self-expression. If you’ve been rigid in your routines, is it time to shake things up? Can you personalize any of your daily life systems to make them more effectively you?
Friday, September 16th: Temperatures may be cooling down but the cosmos are heating up today as Mars in Gemini and Venus in Virgo Square off. Anytime the Cosmic Lovers engage in an intense entanglement, it’s both an irritant and a stimulant (and because this is a mutable square, it could also be both at the same time or quickly fluctuate from one to the other!) Flirty dynamics and “will they/won’t they?” scenarios could change or advance quite rapidly as attractions heat up, crushes develop or intensify, and passionless relationships feel antithetical to our renewed desire to pursue excitement and eroticism. Either way, today is a plot-furthering and very dynamic catalyst for romantic change and healthy desire; it’s essentially good news for anyone feeling stuck and stagnant or personally disconnected from their erotic self, whether due to natural hormonal changes or heartbreak (even if unpartnered and not looking for physical connection, this transit is a total turn-on and often prompts an inner sexual reawakening!) It’s a fabulous time for dating and the attraction of new prospects — if we feel available and open, our auras glow with magnetism and inviting sensuality as we become more aware of who captures our interest — but it also energizes existing attractions or flirtatious dynamics, especially those with a slightly competitive edge which can get us into trouble by stoking tunnel-vision lust for a partnered coworker, or leading us to mistake someone who vibes off us well as a real, meaningful love connection. Embrace the moment’s erotically-charged vibe but ideally, don’t allow steamy pheromonal interplay or intoxicatingly strong polarity to override genuine red flags, overpower your values or ultimately inform your decision-making above other informational centers (especially since this transit can make relationships wrought with a lot of conflict, drama or incompatibility feel romantic, intimate or bonding.) If currently partnered, this transit brings the potential for revived or just super amped sexual chemistry and erotic synergy: embrace playful conflict, healthy disagreement or challenging flirty banter as foreplay today to activate the relationship’s innate polarity dynamic. Otherwise, enjoy this astrology as a creative resurgence and revival of passion in all forms (for people, projects, art, and/or life in general!) and note the desires and/or ideas intuitively conceived today, as they’re worth cultivating. The Sun also opposes Neptune today, an annual event occurring every Virgo Season since Neptune slid into his home sign of Pisces in 2011. It brings creative resurgence and artistic genius (particularly if your artform and/or creative outlet involves personal self-expression or connection with the divine), but it can draw out vibe vampires in our sphere or cause a sense of Neptunian disillusionment with self. If you feel less clear on your identity today — or frustrated with how non-glamorous you fear it may be — steer clear of making decisions from that space (whether it’s contacting an old lover or trimming your own bangs) and wait until the Neptunian fog lifts in a couple days for greater clarity and empowerment. While the facts may be unclear, partially-revealed or just hard-to-parse, this mystical transit illuminates gut hunches, subconscious material, intuitive knowing and subliminal info. It’s still best to put off big decision-making in the form of legal contract-signing or moving a relationship forward (especially with Mercury Retrograde!) but if you have to make a time-sensitive business or relationship call today, listen to your gut. Finally, Venus is harmonizing with the Nodes today which beautifully plays off of the rest of the day’s astrology as deep longings, urges, desires and a sense of knowing lead us away from the past and usher us into our future.
Saturday, September 17th: The theme of today’s Waning Quarter Gemini Moon is options. The tension of this monthly moon phase comes from the fact that it squares the sun, prompting ego self-expression to clash with emotional instinct, and on a deeper level, it sits awkwardly between last week’s dreamy Pisces Full Moon and the potential of the impending New Moon in Libra. A mutable square with Neptune adds a dreamy vibe to the day which can squelch productivity but dramatically dials up sensitivity. Work with this moment to intuitively discern what still works and what doesn’t, subliminally tapping into where change is needed in your life. The moment’s mutable energy indicates that the tides are turning, but we’re left with a series of options regarding how we’d like to proceed. The moon’s air trine to Saturn provides the grace, maturity and forethought to empower us to choose wisely while Neptune’s influence amps gut hunches and intuitive insights. Lean into how the different options feel and go from there (and pay attention to any dreams had around this date — useful subconscious material might be revealed!*)
*To encourage this, place a little dried Mugwort or a Scolecite crystal under your pillow.
Sunday, September 18th: Mercury Retrograde opposes Jupiter in Aries for the second time this month — it’s part of a larger pattern wherein the Trickster God will face-off with the largest planet in the cosmos three times total (the first time was September 2nd, and it’s probably a relevant date to today’s vibe somehow — consult your journal and see what thoughts, ideas or dialogue were trending or percolating at that time in your life and anticipate a brief resurgence of those themes.) But because Mercury is retrograde, we might not get the full clarification we’d ideally like — it’s good for the conception of expansive perspectives or groundbreaking ideas (likely prompted by external dialogue with like-minded folks), confident thinking and eradicating self-doubt but it’s not so good for communicating aggressively, impulsively or without proper forethought, research and/or eloquence. If you can’t self-express intelligently, articulately, or at a moment which feels appropriate, it’s truly best to just hold off — a perspective shift illuminates more information around the time of October 12th, or you’ll just know exactly how to express your point on or around this date. Jupiter supersizes the vibe of any planet he’s contacting — in this case, Mercury rules thought processes and interpersonal communication — and while this means that good ideas, buzzy banter, strong intellectual affinities and rad negotiations are amped or emphasized, things could still feel frustratingly circular or fruitless with the Trickster God moving backwards (but it does intensify the more creative and artistic aspects of this contact: don’t anticipate forward movement, actual developments, or the firming up of concrete ideas until October 12th but do give your quirky genius free range to present edgy, boundary-pushing ideas throughout the retrograde.) The other caveat is that Jupiter opposite Mercury (especially retrograde) could prompt confronting over-reactions, dramatically disproportional feedback loops or annoyingly theatrical (but not necessarily authentic) reveals, personal monologs or bursts of self-expression; needless to say, the usual Mercury Retrograde protocol of not accepting anything at face value applies even more strongly here. On another note, the sun also trines Pluto today which is an opportunity to recover a lost sense of personal power or to intensify existing confidence and a feeling of capability. Spells or magick related to success and triumph — especially if it involves pushing your own personal limits or the re-emergence following a public setback, embarrassment or a fall from grace — is especially powerful today.
Tuesday, September 20th: Venus and Uranus trine — it’s similar to the square between these two planets which occurred on the New Moon in Virgo on the 27th of August but much more gentle and immediately gratifying. It’s good for the formation of unconventional (or simply unexpected) romances, inspiring weird (but favorable) bouts of synchronicity, and shaking us out of our old Venusian routines from outdated skincare habits to limiting dating protocols or self-effacing physical insecurities. The best part is that unlike the square, you don’t need to do anything to harness this energy — if you’re open to an unlikely romance, a spontaneous encounter or the sudden evolution of your Venus Vibe, it comes in a flash today as if by magick.
Thursday, September 22nd: The Sun enters Libra, officially signifying the Autumnal Equinox and the beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere (and Mabon for witches who celebrate!) In addition to marking the Season of the Witch, the sun’s entrance into Libra is a magickal time for cultivating more harmonious, satisfying partnerships and mutually-beneficial power alliances and dynamic duos: it’s also a natural moment to contemplate balance as night and day become equal, inviting us to recalibrate and come back to center. If something in our lives feels slightly out of alignment, it’s likely to enter our awareness now. Whether we need to carve out more time off, adjust our business hours, tweak the tone of our brand or spend more time alone, it’s a powerful moment to make the necessary shifts to restore or strengthen a sense of equilibrium.
Friday, September 23rd: Mercury and the sun align in Libra just before the Messenger God retrogrades back into Virgo and while Mercury and the sun are never too far from one another, it’s special when they come this close in proximity, sparking bold ingenuity, creative self-expression, stimulating mental rapport and illuminating fab new ideas, philosophies, perspectives or belief systems. But because Mercury is currently retrograde, insights and downloads come extra easily but we might not necessarily know what to make of them when they arrive; creative ideas with brilliant potential could feel under-developed or fail to be understood by others, but don’t dismiss today’s surreal revelations or innovative breakthroughs in lieu of disappointing reception or difficulty refining the details. Today is pivotal in that it’s informative and enlightening, but we shouldn’t expect complete clarity until Mercury stations direct around October 2nd — until then, color outside the lines and allow rogue creativity to dazzle and inspire. As Mercury shifts into Virgo later in the day, the vibe of the retrograde is also changed: while Mercury retro in Libra concerned relationships and spotlighted where we may require more balance in our lives or need to recalibrate old thought processes or ways of thinking, Virgo vibe highlights the need for attention to detail but also warns of neurotic over-analysis (to which this sign — and those born under it — are prone.) More generally, Mercury Retrograde through an earth sign is fortifying and restructuring — think revamping old routines, cultivating new and more meaningful habits, becoming more selective and discerning about that which you consume (including food, people, TV, etc.), and de-cluttering as a spell. It’s also a fabulous time for catching up on daily life systems, obligations and routine preventative self-care: if you’re past due (I know I’m guilty!), schedule that check-up or tooth cleaning now.
Saturday, September 24th: Venus and Neptune Oppose, an annual event occurring every time Venus enters Virgo since 2011 and until 2025. And thank the goddess it only happens once a year; not that this is bad astrology (if you’ve been with me long enough, you know there’s really no such thing!) but it can make us a little love-drunk, casting a glamorous haze over potential romantic prospects only for us to wake up months later (or the next day!) and have no idea what we were thinking. Simply put, it’s not a good time to make decisions in the Venusian realms of love, finances, fashion or beauty products — utter paranoia isn’t the answer but if someone tries to sell you a youth-enhancing elixir not yet approved by the FDA or a seemingly-perfect match slides into your DMs with a good one-liner today, proceed with extra caution. But because Neptunian/Venusian astrology is only tricky when we seek to satisfy a desire via external means — the magick potion, the dreamy lover, the shiny new car — the best way to play this astrology is to be your own fantasy. Dress as your ideal self, immerse yourself in creativity or art, and cast an intentional glamour via your outfit or visual aesthetic, your social media presence or storytelling abilities. It’s hard to tell a castle from a mirage through today’s rose-tinted lenses, so ride the dazzling high of this enchanting astrology knowing that at any moment, it could all disappear or prove to have been an illusion (which makes it no less beautiful!)
Tarot Card for the Pisces Full Moon: The Chariot
The yellow flecks (if you’re curious) are sunflower-petal dust from my magickal garden, sprinkled intentionally along the surface of my altar. The pictured crystal is Blue Calcite.
The Chariot (pulled from the Coleman-Smith-Waite deck) is a deeply transformative card which captures the triumphant moment of leaving behind our cocoon and shedding old layers so we can move forward, unencumbered and ready to prosper. It’s an energy that requires courage and confidence to step into; often, we’re asked to leave an old aspect of the self (or something external to us) behind when the Chariot arises, so it’s unsurprising to see it as our guiding ally for the Full Moon in Pisces, which is fundamentally about release and letting go of that which no longer serves. Like most Major Arcana cards, it’s not an energy that comes and goes quickly; in fact, receiving this card is actually evidence of it having been in our sphere for a while, as it comes as a harbinger of success and forward-movement which is not at all random, but born as the result of lengthy inner work, deep contemplation and the kind of intense self-reflection which takes months and is necessary before this level of transformation is made possible. Whether you’re releasing old habits, outdated thought processes, limiting behavioral patterns or are departing from a destructive (or simply completed) cycle this Pisces Full Moon, the Chariot is here to usher us into this new paradigm with confidence, energy, grace and empowerment, regardless of what this inner shift may involve or require of us. Whether you’re expressing your true feelings to a love interest or ending a relationship, leaving an old position or stepping into a new and more appropriate job title, entering this new paradigm will require vulnerability as it asks us to shed old identities and expose the rawness of who we are — work with the Pisces Full Moon to channel this level of quiet strength, deep serenity and to shed whatever layers (whether literal or metaphorical) have been weighing you down and delaying your inevitable expansion.
