Two-Week Astrology Report:
Saturday, August 27th: Mars squares today’s Sun/Moon alignment, amplifying ego responses and laying the astrological groundwork for temper tantrums and reactivity. The good news is that it also stimulates passion, creativity and potentially self-confidence or an opportunity to self-back via a motivating bout with adversity, but steer clear today of people who (to you) are chronic catalysts for anger, or who tend to facilitate infuriating circumstances by intentionally provoking others and orchestrating confrontation. Our gut instincts today around tribal connections — our ability to identify an ally, a simpatico soul or a potential collaborator vs. a lowkey foe — are spot on, and if shots are fired in your direction — whether intentionally so or not — your instinct will likely be to fire back today (even if doing so isn’t normally in your nature.) Try to resist a miscalculated urge to draw your sword and rush into battle, remembering that an instinct (while informative) isn’t necessarily a cue to act, instead finding productive ways to blow off steam via art, sex, physical exercise or achievement. The most helpful aspect of this Mars-afflicted New Moon is it’s extra strong rebirth/new beginning potential: use it to set very specific goals or to reinvigorate existing ones for which you’ve started to lose motivation or enthusiasm, and new ventures initiated now which require us to self-back or blaze a new trail are blessed and encouraged by this moment. Venus also squares Uranus today which is a catalyst for the formation of weird, unexpected or outright unlikely romances. If dating, enjoy this transit as an opportunity to rethink your personal romantic protocol: maybe, for example, it’s time to abandon who you think is your usual “type”, or how you go about cultivating romance and showing up to the dating scene and it’s inhabitants more generally. Open-mindedness and a willingness to deviate from your personal romantic norm can yield incredible benefits during this transit (but likely won’t provide the outcome you would’ve realistically anticipated.) If in a relationship, it’s a good time to check in with your partner (and yourself) to ensure that nobody’s independence and personal freedom is being infringed upon by the existing relationship model. If your quirky individuality has taken a backseat to complacency and agreeability, resentment could peak now and incite a dramatic cry for independence, but before acting out or calling the whole thing off, initiate honest dialogue and explore ways to safely self-express and individuate more strongly within the dynamic. More generally, it’s a good time to revisit a relationship’s terms and conditions with an open mind and if something isn’t working, find creative ways to mess with the rules and personalize the system until you find something that works for both of you. More personally, it’s a good transit for a dramatic style morph or bold aesthetic revamp in the form an experimental (even if temporary) hair color, an edgy clothing ensemble, or an uncharacteristically vibrant lip color.
Sunday, August 28th: Saturn and Venus form an Opposition today, and when the Goddess of Love and the Cosmic Lawmaker commence a tense stand-off, romance and affection give way to a suddenly obvious need for boundaries. If you’re currently unpartnered, it’s a good day to continue the re-evaluation of personal romantic protocol initiated yesterday but more within the context of deal-breakers, bottom-lines, and promises which must be made to oneself and upheld. If you’re currently in partnership, resentment could brew if a boundary infringement has recently surfaced, particularly if it wasn’t addressed and discussed right away. While Venus is about pleasure and the more playful side of romance, Saturn expresses tough love and takes measures to ensure a relationship’s long-term sustainability. It’s not always easy to ask a partner to empty the dishwasher or to lovingly call them out on being late for date night — especially if doing so hints at a larger behavioral pattern that we’ve already allowed for quite some time. But Saturn invites us to cultivate and enforce a personal set of boundaries today which clarify our needs and ultimately help others be in a relationship with us. Begin with self-inquiry and from there, initiate the necessary dialogue!
Thursday, September 1st: Jupiter and Mars harmonize today, and particularly with the latter planet now in airy Gemini, it’s good for idea generation, the development of grandiose visions, ambitious goal-setting and inspired action. It’s a motivating and auspicious influence which inspires us to go big, and according to traditional astrology, it’s a lucky time to make a bold move, to take a personal risk or to expand an existing concept or self-started venture. If you’re initiating a new beginning today or taking an optimistic leap, know that you're astrologically supported — these two planets working together favor self-backing and reward demonstrations of self-confidence.
Friday, September 2nd: Mercury in Libra is indecisive and thoughtful while Jupiter in Aries is self-assured and (possibly) arrogant, so today’s opposition between these two planets could have us oscillating dramatically between their polarized frequencies; it’s difficult to make aligned decisions not rooted in paralyzing awareness of all the possible outcomes nor single-minded self-interest and indifference to consequence. If possible, put off big moves or decisions for at least a couple days but if there’s an urgent matter with a time-sensitive component requiring your attention, consult a bone fide professional to avoid a serious miscalculation (or seek the counsel of an impartial, trusted ally whose wisdom and expertise is particularly relevant to the issue at hand.) Socially, there are opportunities to develop alliances and cultivate or deepen existing stimulating mental rapport, and incoming information could introduce an empowering new perspective or facilitate a mindset shift. But there’s a lot of white noise and surface-level banter to sift through — gossip and over-sharing are the unfortunate side effects of this transit, so don’t share private or sensitive info you wouldn’t want repeated (unless, of course, it’s to a long-time trusted ally) and to access this astrology’s social perks, avoid those who talk big but seem actually under-researched, or who liberally spread information which isn’t theirs to share. If an idea sounds too good to be true or simply seems under-planned, it probably is — don’t hop on the bandwagon of a charismatic individual simply because they seem to believe in themselves and the cause they’re aligned with. Especially with Mercury Retrograde around the corner, do your own research and obtain a second opinion before agreeing to anything legally binding or difficult to un-do — even if truly well-meaning, other people’s ideas and opinions could be severely misguided under this influence.
Saturday, September 3rd: The waxing quarter moon in Sagittarius opposes Mars, so today’s vibe could be defensive, argumentative and generally confrontational but thankfully, conflict arising today is likely to be productive and bust through boundaries: open-minded Sag and mutable Gemini may sit opposite one another on the zodiac’s wheel, but they’re always willing to consider other perspectives and evolve their take as developments unfold. The moon also synergizes with Mercury and Jupiter, so the vibe is definitely light, breezy and conducive to synthesizing new information, evolving a perspective and engaging in meaningful dialogue. Even if it’s messy or awkward, stay fluid and flexible to get the best outcome.
Monday, September 5th: Venus enters Virgo until the end of the month, so the best way to seduce a lover or romantic interest isn’t with garish displays of affection, lavish gifts or even endless compliments (unless, of course, their natal Venus sign is Leo!) but instead with simple acts of service. Anything you can do to lighten your lover’s load, contribute to their life in a meaningful way or actively help them throughout their day will be much appreciated, and the Goddess of Love in this humble, service-oriented sign teaches us that caring for others can actually be deeply pleasurable for us, too (especially for those in long-term relationships, finding new, creative ways to be of service to a long-term partner is a fun and very rewarding personal challenge!) If you compliment their outfit but forget to take the garbage out or neglect to sweep the floor before they get home, don’t expect the latter to go unnoticed — the best sonnet now is a clean kitchen, a made bed, a completed to-do list and a drawn lavender-scented bubble-bath, and you can scrap candle-lit dinners and chocolate under the pillow in favor of doing the week’s grocery shopping, replacing the toilet paper roll or even offering a loving, sensual backrub before bed. In terms of self-love, this is one of the best Venus transits to give yourself some TLC in the form of ultra-pleasurable daily routines which facilitate a smoother, more joyful and more pleasure-oriented day. Flirt with yourself by strategically re-arranging your morning supplements on top of the espresso machine beside your favorite mug, treating yourself to afternoon yoga or stocking the fridge with healthy, already-prepped meals to sustain you throughout the week: self-care in the literal sense of the word is definitely the territory of Venus in Virgo, and if your daily systems and routines have become boring or unsatisfying, find fun ways to infuse them with more sensory pleasure and fulfillment (up your skincare game with a new serum or by adding a jade roller to your routine, for example, or switch up your workouts to add more payoff and variety!) If dating, Venus in Virgo reminds us to seek out partnership where we’re actually supported. Initial chemistry and spark are great, but a one-note lover who doesn’t actually fit into your life (or find unique ways to add to it) won’t likely keep your interest through September.
Wednesday, September 7th: The sun trines the North Node, a subtle but rewarding opportunity to individuate and self-express in a way that’s truly in alignment with our larger purpose. Sometimes, it’s obvious — an offer or invitation breezes in, an affirmation validates us or an act of generosity conveys touching appreciation — but other times, it’s merely a moment of feeling connected to one’s unique selfhood and in sync with the environment at the same time. Either way, today brings a reward for either being who we are or doing something we’re innately good at it and also enjoy — it could involve whatever we do for work or to generate abundance (like a promotion or glowing review) but think also creative offerings, your vibe contribution to an environment and the more subtle ways you show up for others or serve them via your role.
Friday, September 9th: Mercury turns retrograde until October, and while life must go on it’s definitely a time to be extra careful, particularly when signing documents or committing to anything legally (the courtroom and justice system are Libra’s domain.) If you’re signing a lease, proceeding with a divorce settlement or otherwise dealing with lawyers and legalities, be super familiar with the terms and conditions before you lower your pen to that proverbial dotted line. Otherwise, know that relationships are more prone to miscommunication, especially when Mercury retrogrades through the highly social sign of Libra. It’s a fabulous time, however, for a relationship recalibration or to restore balance to a troubled dynamic, especially before the 23rd (when the god of communication returns to the sign of Virgo.)
Tarot Card for the Virgo New Moon: The Seven of Wands
Our tarot card for the New Moon in Virgo is the Seven of Wands*, a card that can arise when our inner flame is burning a little bit too hot and/or becomes misdirected (which isn’t surprising, given this New Moon’s tense interaction with the Cosmic Warrior Mars!) Lindsay Mack of Tarot for the Wild Soul describes an experience of being in this card as one in which we’re fighting against an imaginary army; it can feel almost as though life itself is conspiring against us, and sometimes, it’s even a particular person or set of circumstances that we’ve convinced ourselves is our adversary. We might be fighting or muscling our way forward in hopes of achieving a very specific outcome like scoring a promotion, securing a certain level of abundance, or possibly even locking down a relationship, but more often, this card tends to appear when our motivations and end game is a little more elusive. We might be fighting to maintain a particular label or idea of ourselves, or we could be aggressively defending a position or perspective from a space of feeling threatened or insecure. Either way, we usually feel slightly attacked when this card arises and possibly even competitive with other people or influences (which we have wrongfully deemed the enemy.) The good news about the Seven of Wands is that it arises as a gentle reminder that the very thing we’re fighting to obtain (which, by the way, is not even usually the thing we think we want, but something deeper and more subconscious) is already available to us, and we’d actually manifest it much more quickly if we stopped trying so hard to push and shove our way to the top. We need not defend ourselves or our position, exert tons of effort, hustle and grind nor compete against some external nemesis of our own manufacturing in order to manifest our bliss; instead, step out of your Mars vibe and embrace a more receptive, feminine approach to moving some energy. Just allowing ease and flow will much more quickly and powerfully deliver results this New Moon (and the journey of getting there will be a lot more satisfying, too!) If you’ve been feeling disheartened about a particular manifestation not happening as quickly as you would like, check your inner dialogue. Are you telling yourself the story that you’ve been wronged, that you need to fight and struggle against adversarial factors actively working against your cause? Try sinking into the truth that you’re absolutely deserving of the abundance, relationships and wonderful experiences of your wildest dreams and that actually, nothing and no one is stopping you from accessing them, as this isn’t a power anyone outside of us effectively possesses. Even if someone is technically competing against us for the same position, promotion or outcome, it’s an illusion that there can only be one winner, and the Seven of Wands challenges us to step into a deeper level of security in our own unique individuality and ability to self-express the way that only we can. All you need to do is embrace a sense of worthiness and create space for wonderful things to enter, remembering to leave some of it up to the interpretation of the Universe (maybe, for example, something even more wonderful comes along than you could have imagined!) This New Moon is a fantastic time to work that magick and call it forth — take a deep breath, forfeit the competition, and gracefully claim the crown** that is already yours!
