Libra Full Moon Newsletter🔮
Happy Full Moon in Libra and happy (almost) Eostre, marked officially by the first Sunday after the Full moon of April! While I don’t personally celebrate Eostre in a big way, many witches do as a second (and often, more weather-appropriate) indication that warmer weather is approaching and new life is beginning to sprout, bringing to mind the larger themes of rebirth, renewal and new life (many people aren’t aware how deeply entrenched in Pagan mythology modern Christianized Easter is; in addition to it’s obvious connection to the moon, which determines the day of the week on which it falls, the very name is derived from the Celtic Spring Goddess Eostre who was celebrated each year between the Equinox and Beltane, and even the day’s traditional festivities like painting eggs and the mythological Easter Bunny come from Pagan Ostara celebrations and stories!) Regardless, most faiths bond over a shared sense that this time of year is one where a very special kind of magick can unfold; nature itself is revived after a long, harsh winter, bringing to our attention the fact that truly anything is possible. Enjoy the day however it feels good to you and even if you don’t celebrate in a big way, I invite you to think about how you’d like to rebirth yourself through this final week of Aries Season!
Astrology Forecast~
Saturday, April 16th: It’s the Full Moon in Libra, activating natural culmination points and heightened emotional awareness tied to Libran themes such as beauty, balance, justice, fairness and perhaps most especially, relationships. Later in the evening, she enters Scorpio and trines the still-strong Saturn/Mars config (Saturn remains in the late degrees of Aquarius so technically trines the moon at her fullest point, while Mars just entered Pisces so the synergy isn’t exact until her transition into Scorpio later in the day.) Either way, it’s a big (and helpful!) theme of this Full Moon, allowing for the more easeful expression of emotional passion, heightened physical energy levels and increased maturity and/or wisdom related to whatever the moment’s emotional experience is. It’s also an optimal lunar moment for coming up with new strategies, laying the foundation for new protocol and generally restructuring and reassessing, and we may experience closure, insight, or reap the benefits of conserved energy around the time of April 4th (when Mars’ alignment to Saturn was exact.) But the Full Moon is also square Pluto which considerably intensifies the collective mood, possibly manifesting as emotional reactivity and/or unpleasant levels of emotional charge (particularly around Venusian themes, which for many of us, already hold a great deal of neuroses and/or intensity.) Ideally, analytical Pluto boosts the moment’s potential to recalibrate and harmonize at a very deep psychological level, starting from the ground up, and invites us not to shy away from the root cause of any imbalances at play in our lives (which may be the symptom of something buried or hidden deep in the subconscious.) Overall, this Full Moon is a practical opportunity to come into alignment before eclipse season by taking stock of our relationships and the health of our relational systems and behaviors, establishing equilibrium wherever it may be needed, and honestly assessing whether or not we actually contribute to a state of order, beauty, fairness and balance, both within and around us, the way we’d like to think we do. If you notice you’re generating a negative feedback loop this week (and can rule out that it isn’t exclusively due to others working out their inner turmoil on you in a fit of Plutonic Full Moon melodrama) or something in your life suddenly feels unbearably out of balance or in extreme need of order and/or refinement, don’t disregard it as a random bout of Full Moon weirdness — make the necessary adjustments, have the conversations and conduct an honest appraisal of your energetic side of the street. Spell-work on this Full Moon related to social justice, beauty, and/or relationships receives an extra boost; work with it to manifest a swift restoration of balance, to conjure energies of diplomacy, reconciliation and clear communication, and/or to put energy toward a just outcome or ruling (and for support with the latter, work with Red Jasper* and Hematite*.)
Sunday April 17th: Happy Easter to those who celebrate! Otherwise, Mercury in Taurus synergizes with Venus in Pisces which alone is worth celebrating; it promotes easeful, harmonious communication flow and beautifies Mercurial pursuits (it’s especially favorable for those who speak and/or write creatively) but today’s astro isn’t without the inevitable hint of intensity: we now have the moon in Scorpio, extra moody and Chthonic given that we’re still coming down from the intensity of yesterday’s Pluto-amped full moon, and it’s opposite the Mercury/Uranus config in Taurus (exact tomorrow) which can create a sense of dissonance between the logical, progressive, thinking/rational mind and our more intuitive, feeling, emotionally-inclined natures. Oppositions are often experienced interpersonally (bringing to our attention what is actually an inner conflict) so watch for dynamics wherein you play the role of one of these archetypal planetary energies and see what you can learn (maybe, for example, you’re the sensitive witch/healer to someone in your sphere whose hyper-logical, or you’re the rebellious, change-oriented, nostalgia-averse zeitgeist tripper in your work environment with little tolerance for sentiment or attachment to the past.) It’s not a matter of changing your perspective or adapting theirs, but seeing how the dynamic’s interplay speaks to an important (even if subtle) ongoing inner dialogue between two warring versions of you.
Monday, April 18th: Mercury and Uranus conjunct, an influence we’ve been acclimating to since April 10th and will continue to enjoy for another several weeks (but it’s felt most strongly this week and more specifically, today.) Mercury and Uranus already share an affinity (many astrologers think of Uranus as something of a higher-octave expression of Mercury) so when the two Trickster/Magician planets conjunct, scientific discoveries and technological advancements abound, solution-oriented thinking and groundbreaking realizations permeate the collective unconscious, and we all become prone to sudden moments of ingenuity, innovation, futuristic insight and quirky genius. Expect breakthroughs, the emergence of offbeat concepts, ideas or discoveries, a general surge in brilliance and for anything that obstructs progress to dissolve — the more open-minded, fluid and receptive to change we are, the more we’ll benefit. Work magick today to glean insight into future trends, to parse the nuances of a situation with extreme objectivity or to evolve/update a particular perspective or deeply-entrenched (but not necessarily helpful) mindset. Venus also synergizes with Uranus today as the alignment takes place so expect a (possibly related) update or opportunity to evolve something about your personal aesthetic, relationship protocol and/or your artform. Also: The Aries sun squares Pluto which can activate toxic power struggles and/or aggravate any tyrannical figures in your sphere. But it’s awesome astro for a swift recovery of lost or depleted personal power or autonomy and supports the healthy development of the solar plexus; carry a pyrite* for luck and success and surround yourself with solar talismans and imagery (or the color yellow) as a mini personal empowerment spell (and, as is always effective protocol, avoid toxic people on a power trip and disempower them via your radiance.)
Tuesday, April 19th: Happy Taurus Season! Even though I don’t have any Taurus in my chart, this is one of my favorite times of year: I playfully like to think of the sun’s entrance into the zodiac’s Fixed Earth sign as a big juicy Venusian permission slip to put pleasure first over productivity (something Taureans, and those with heavy Taurus in their chart, intuitively do all the time!) Get a massage, order dessert, take long walks in nature, sleep in, and try to prioritize doing whatever feels good to the physical body and senses this month as much as possible and practical. It’s also powerful solar energy for building on and fortifying any intentions set during Aries Season, achieving sustainable ways to gradually lay the foundation for long-term security and prosperity.
Saturday, April 23rd: Mercury conjuncts the North Node so today, even the most practical of us can find ourselves functioning outside of linear time and probably not even realizing it, psychically slipping into the future at the grocery store while sifting through avocados or suddenly aware of how an old moment or lesson informs the present moment in unexpected ways. It’s annoying to those who can’t align to the vibe but the major benefit? We can liberate ourselves from the ways in which time may limit us, evolving an aspect of our persona and aligning to our most timeless self.
Sunday, April 24th: Mercury squares Saturn in Aquarius so the day brings an opportunity to restructure or fortify our voice, writing style, communication strategies, mental disciplines, thought patterns and/or listening skills, but hard aspects involving Saturn usually require that we undergo some level of hardship or inconvenience before we ultimately get to enjoy the numerous benefits made possible by the restructuring. A communication technique, a mode of self-expression or an outdated mental pattern reveals itself to be problematic or ineffective, but it’s an invitation to make the necessary adjustments which will more than solve the immediate problem, surprising us with more benefits than what we even expected (but probably not immediately.) Mercury also sextiles Neptune which is excellent for creative self-expression and anything artistic using the voice, words or mind — if you’re a poet, singer, songwriter, speaker, storyteller and/or writer, engage with your artform today and you’ll notice creativity flows with particular ease.
Monday, April 25th: Venus in Pisces harmonizes with the Nodes, a subtle and fleeting energy but one that’s very conducive to romance. We’re drawn away from the past by sudden meetings, chance encounters and instantaneous, intuitive realizations; we immediately know which connections to explore vs. which to abandon, and our deepest romantic longings clarify. It’s the kind of astrology under which people fall in love — with themselves, with an idea or a lifestyle — or gain extreme clarity around what they actually want. Wear rose essential oil and carry your favorite love-drawing crystals (like rose quartz*, rhodocrosite*, or mangano calcite*) to access the Venusian vibe and open yourself to synchronicity — flip through the dating apps for a very accurate sense of who you’d like to meet vs. who you’re inexplicably repelled by (even if their face resembles a hunky, matured version of your high-school crush and their profile reads like a sonnet) and generally, you can trust your instincts today around Venusian things, from relationships to fashion choices.
Wednesday, April 27th: Venus and Neptune align in Pisces which is one of the most romantic moments of the year. Venusian people* and Pisceans will be especially affected, but everyone gets access to this brief moment of heightened intimacy and emotional depth which, at best, brings an opportunity to amplify our threshold for receiving via a self-love ritual or to cleanse old toxins from the heart chakra in a crystal-infused, rose-scented love bath. But the major caveat of a Venus and Neptune alignment, especially in Pisces, is that we can find ourselves attracted to emotionally unavailable people or victim/martyr/savior dynamics wherein we catch ourselves becoming a character to please/rescue/un-trap the other party (which, if you’ve never been in such a dynamic, I can assure you it’s incredibly painful and unsatisfying.) High-vibe Neptunian romances are intimate, vast and deeply bonding at the spiritual level, but low-vibe Neptunian romances are a cheap knock-off version of this and it can honestly be difficult to tell the difference (especially in the midst of a Neptune-Venus haze.) It’s a strong love vibe but not the best astrology under which to actually date, make big relationship decisions or consult the apps, as we’re viewing suitors and potential love interests through a bit of a foggy love-haze which might encourage us to overlook poor behavior in favor of acknowledging “potential.” Today is fantastic, however, to focus on the self with solitary heart healing or love-attracting rituals (or if this is a little too out-there, journal and meditate on healing the heart and magnetizing the kind of love you want) and if in a healthy and loving relationship, it’s a great day to strengthen the connection by ritualizing intimacy, bonding with a date night or conducting an emotional check-in. Also: Mercury and Jupiter synergize, a fantastic encourager of radical new ideas, fresh perspectives and a bold new mental expansion.
Thursday, April 28th: Mercury trines Pluto which is awesome astrology for deep self-inquiry, solving mysteries and problems, and bringing to light with levity and humor what has previously been shrouded in shame and/or secrecy. Pluto turns retrograde tomorrow so it’s an influence which lasts the week: enjoy it as a brief moment wherein usually off-limits topics, or those overripe with emotional charge, feel quite approachable and friendly (or, at the very least, a little easier to access.)
Friday, April 29th: It’s the Dark Moon, currently between Aries and Taurus, sextile Saturn and square Pluto. All Dark Moons leading up to the New Moon are excellent for cleansing, releasing, and/or banishing spell-work but today’s is especially conducive to this kind of magick: use your favorite charcoal face/body scrub and visualize the psychic gunk of the previous moon cycle washing away and for clarity around what you’re ready to release, journal and/or pull tarot cards on the subject (but because Pluto forms a tense angle to the moon today, you’ll likely know — whatever emotions feel uncomfortably consuming today, or as though they’re becoming radioactive, are ready to be dismissed.) Pluto also stations retrograde in Capricorn today, and the Lord of the Underworld won’t resume forward motion until October, spending the entire rest of the spring, summer and nearly half of fall in retro phase but like all the generational planets, Pluto spends pretty much half the year retrograde so this isn’t necessarily an energy that’ll prominently effect our day-to-day lives. It does, however, affect today’s astrology by making it extra Plutonic — intensity, intimacy and authenticity are favored now, and anything phony or superficial is…well, not. It’s an excellent day for personal excavation work and psychoanalysis, and think of the next six months as a subtle opportunity to explore the power dynamics at play in your life. Also happening today is Mercury’s entrance into Gemini, the sign over which the Messenger God rules. He functions especially well here but is preparing for a mid-May retrograde; until then, we can enjoy the benefits of Mercury cruising through his favorite sign including clear communication, razor-sharp wit, and heightened communication skills.
Tarot Card for the Libra Full Moon: Ace of Cups! 💦
While every Libra Full Moon creates space for a mental recalibration, this one brings an opportunity for a full-on emotional re-set, a chance to increase our capacity for self-love and compassion and to undergo a deep healing of the heart center. We’re still working through the tumultuous (and frankly unpleasant) energies of the Five of Swords, our tarot card for the Aries Moon Cycle (which brings no shortage of discomfort, anxiety, conflict and mental gymnastics) but something happens around the time of today’s Full Moon to invite us into our more tender, sensitive and highly intuitive feeling nature, a place from which we can receive pleasure more fully, understand and express our emotional truth with ease and clarity, and embody vulnerability with grace and authenticity. However, the Aces of the Tarot uniquely require our attention and participation in order for the magick to unfold; while every card poses an opportunity (which we can then choose to either decline or accept), the Aces embody the most raw, pure and concentrated expression of their respective suit and are therefore that much more magickal and elusive. They won’t usually represent any one kind of emotional experience and aren’t always met with an immediate external cue or affirmation, but are rather experienced as a subtle, looming vibe; we need to actively grab them, capitalize on the moment and say “yes” to the subtle invitation or shift, however it uniquely appears to us, to take the first step into the expansions they hold. But that’s not to say that something imminent and external isn’t in the cards for us this Full Moon; in fact, we can usher in amazing emotional shifts under this influence which will quickly manifest love interests, deepen or develop new and satisfying friendships and connections, inspire more easeful creative self-expression and, perhaps most importantly, increase our ability to look upon ourselves with loving acceptance and clarity. But to fully accept and engage with the moment’s gentle invitation into emotional embodiment, we’re well-advised to seek out these moments and assume an active role in manifesting healing for and within ourselves. Heart-healing crystals like rhodocrosite*, rhodonite*, mangano calcite* and rose quartz* are this full moon’s talismans, and it’s a perfect energy for a love spell, a heart-opening ritual or to seek to more effectively embody our more feminine, yin, receptive nature. Make an agreement with yourself to lead with a slightly more open heart than usual for today’s Full Moon, whatever that looks like for you uniquely; it could be saying yes to the date with a well-meaning suitor, creating time and space to reclaim your artform, allowing yourself to be truly seen and self-expressed and surrendering to the joy of authentic connection with a loved one, or taking a compassionate look at your broken heart and doing whatever is needed in that moment to heal (allow me to recommend a long bubble-bath, a bit of chocolate, and a quick binge of Sex & the City. It’s quite effective!) The most powerful spell this Full Moon is to bravely attune to our authentic emotions and treat ourselves with the same gentle kindness and compassion we tend to so freely offer others, and if you’ve been experiencing a lot of emotional highs and lows recently, this message is especially for you; the Full Moon brings opportunities to re-center and validate whatever it is that you’re feeling, but only if you’re willing to bravely examine those emotions (and whatever seems to be causing them) with loving self-acceptance and attentive curiosity. The Ace of Cups wants us to seek out support and compassion from our community, open ourselves to receive whatever it is that we need (whether from ourselves or other people), and to self-express with grace, confidence and vulnerability. When we take the first step toward emotional embodiment and learn to practice it regularly (something which is absolutely a skill, a muscle which needs to be flexed and is mastered throughout the journey of the Cups!), we realize that it’s okay to be exactly where we are, and we pave the way for higher-quality relationships moving forward, rooted in and fortified by the rich, authentic relationship we have to ourselves.

Journal Prompt for the Full Moon in Libra
Aries Season is a time to access our badass boss/CEO energy by self-backing, self-asserting, and vehemently protecting and upholding our authenticity and personal autonomy (something all Aries people are great at, and thank the goddess for that!) But the Full Moon in Libra which occurs each Aries Season can stir deep emotions around how we cultivate a strong and unapologetic sense of self in a world where the health of our relationships (which is directly related to our ability to listen to others and compromise!) ultimately determines the overall quality of our lives (as the great and wise Esther Perel once said.) If we operated completely unintentionally in our approach to relationships and conflict-resolution, most of us would either defer to excessive self-interest and self-righteousness as we haughtily bulldozed over others, viewing everyone as a potential threat to our individuality and refusing to compromise or give of ourselves at the smallest hint of inconvenience, or we’d people-please the shit out of a seemingly-declining situation, using charm, appeasement and deploying the auto-“yes!” technique to bend and stretch ourselves in order to make the relationship work, abandoning ourselves and losing who we are in the process. Thankfully, we all usually function somewhere in the middle with a little bit of personal intention and self-awareness along with loving partners and friends who can offer gentle feedback, invite us into accountability and witness the process of our ever-unfolding journey, but today, it’s fun to journal about where you think you tend to fall on this spectrum as a rule, and how you currently manage to gracefully individuate in your relationships while also remaining open to the healthy compromises which nurture relationships. Personally, my partner and I battle a shared tick to people-please and over-accommodate, something we’re skilled at identifying in one another and promptly squelching (we both have Libra on the rise and an Aries descendent, but my fella is an Aries sun so don’t over-simplify this exercise by hyper-focusing on any one placement in particular. The whole chart needs to be considered!) Feel free to journal about past relationship experiences where this polarity felt significant, to reflect on distant or recent relational blunders you’ve experienced where you know for a fact you didn’t nail this balance (we’ve all been there!), or even to write about how you feel you engage with this polarity now in your current relationship challenges, and whether or not this Libra Full Moon has brought anything to your attention. It’s also fun to pull up your complete birth chart (which you can do for free using astro.com!) and assess whether or not you feel your astrology accurately reflects your relating style, paying special attention to whatever houses and planets fall in the signs of Aries and Libra (or the 1st/7th houses.)
