Gemini New Moon Newsletter 🌑
Happy New Moon in Gemini (and happy Memorial Day!)
The Season of the Twins welcomes us into the final weeks of spring before we officially find ourselves entrenched in the warmest days of the year here in the Northern Hemisphere. And there’s no better astro to usher us out of the intensity of the Scorpio Full Moon (and into BBQ/pool party season) than a chatty, open-minded New Moon in sociable Gemini, an excellent time to cast spells or conduct magick related to manifesting new friendship connections, repairing distressed sibling relationships, expanding or diversifying one’s friendship circle, clearing the pathway for open interpersonal communication, or cultivating a more vibrant social life (and if you’ve been wanting to manifest a new set of wheels, whether your dream vehicle or just something with 4 wheels to get you to and fro, this is your moment!) But more broadly, the Gemini New Moon ushers us into a collective sense of levity, humor, friendliness and mutability. Blockages lift, setbacks dissipate, heavy emotional burdens seem to lighten, and boredom and stagnancy give way to fresh ideas, dynamic communication and the easeful arrival of inspiring new options. Our phones buzz with game-changing developments and exciting social invitations, old friends come out of the woodwork to catch up and get reacquainted, and even our most random everyday encounters and surface-level interactions feel energized and electrified. I may be a little biased as a double air sign myself, but Gemini Season is one of my favorite times of year. Here’s a few ideas to help you get in on the magick by tapping into your inner Gemini (and for inspiration, pull up your birth chart and note the house which occupies Gemini — it’s the area of life wherein you’re innately sharp, quick-witted, intelligent and multi-faceted, always a few paces ahead of everyone else!)
🌺A little communication spell: Ask more thoughtful, well-timed questions. As Gemini is one of the most relational signs of the zodiac, we’re in the midst of a unique time of year wherein everyone starts intuitively thinking about relationship maintenance and amplifying their personal charm, charisma and sociability. Everyone loves to talk about themselves, and one of the most effective ways to gracefully keep a conversation flowing and cultivate rich, satisfying relationships is to let other people know that we’re curious about them! Asking questions (followed by active listening) is a clear indication to the speaker that we find them interesting, and this is truly one of the biggest compliments a person can receive. Ideally, questions should be asked that build on previously-given information (this is something Geminis are really good at!) which affirm to the speaker that you both listened and care enough to remember and then follow up. Few acts are more supportive and heart-warming than expressing interest the next day in how someone’s nerve-racking appointment went, or using the proper name of one of their friends or family members (and alleging to be bad with specific names or dates is no excuse — write it down!) As human beings, we are curious: it’s simply wired in our DNA, and it’s something a lot of us are ashamed of or shy about (healthy human curiosity is the driving force behind some of our weirdest behaviors like social media-stalking people we don’t even know, from celebrities to random people in our town, or binge-watching trashy reality TV. C’mon, I know you’ve done it.) We’re particularly curious and inquisitive in whatever area of life is stimulated by Gemini in the birth chart, but instead of going down an anticlimactic social media rabbit hole on the subject or partaking in intrusive gossip behind another’s back (which are the unproductive/low-vibe ways our curiosity can sometimes manifest), allow this aspect of your nature to come out of the closet this Gemini Season and actually work with it to cultivate stronger and healthier relationships. And asking well-curated questions isn’t just an effective practice for getting to know new people; ironically, we often forget to energize the very relationships which matter most to us with a healthy sense of curiosity. We can tend to assume that after a while, there’s nothing left to learn about our long-term partners, family members, and even our closest friends, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. The beautiful thing about people is that we’re dynamic; life is happening to us every day, and there’s always something to be unearthed (and the moment you find someone utterly uninteresting is honestly the moment you shouldn’t associate with them anymore!) It’s important to note, though, that it’s not always charming or even appropriate to ask someone personal questions about themselves, and this really comes down to correctly understanding your company and environment. Your server or manicurist, for example, may not feel comfortable explaining the symbolism of their tattoo to you as their client, and even fellow colleagues or professional higher-ups in a work environment may wish to maintain a healthy boundary and shouldn’t be put on the spot with pointed personal questions. What one person appreciates as charming curiosity could be interpreted by another as awkward or intrusive, and even an innocent bid for connection can feel rude if ill-timed or unwanted by the recipient. Everyone has different personal boundaries which should absolutely be respected. It really just comes down to reading the room (again, something Gemini’s are great at!)
💜Try something new! Whoever said “variety is the spice of life!” was clearly not a Cancer Moon like myself, for whom familiarity and a sense of routine is the ultimate anchor (despite my quirky Aquarian persona, my absolute favorite things are my home, my cats, my closest relationships and watching movies to which I already know the ending. Go ahead — judge me!) It’s true that while we all have certain levels of need for both certainty and uncertainty in our lives, most of us tend to prefer one over the other (and astrology can very effectively indicate whether someone grounds via routine or instinctively pursues novelty.) But ultimately, Gemini Season is a time to try new things and introduce a healthy degree of variety wherever you typically fall on the spectrum (even my fellow Cancer Moons benefit from shaking things up every now and then and leaving the house!) The good news is, it doesn’t have to be anything crazy — take a different route to work, try a new coffee shop, chat up an interesting stranger or give a new recipe a shot. The willingness to place oneself in unfamiliar situations generates opportunity during Gemini Season, so commit to being a little more open-minded than usual, align to the vibe of levity and flow, and see where the mutable winds blow you!
🔮Cleanse and bless your vehicle. Most of us spend a lot of time in our vehicles, yet it doesn’t usually occur to us to offer our main method of transportation the same magickal upkeep we routinely provide our homes with. For many of us, a ritual cleanse of the car is a once-yearly event, and because Gemini rules short-term travel, it’s a fantastic time of year to conduct both a physical and energetic cleanse of our four-wheeled wand. As you clean the exterior and/or interior of your car, imbue it with energies of protection, opportunity and adventure by drawing sigils with the soapy water or using basic visualization. If an open flame in your car makes you nervous to cleanse the interior (in which case I don’t blame you!) try using a smudge spray as opposed to incense or a smudge stick (Sun’s Eye makes a good one, or you can make your own by diluting sage oil in water with a little alcohol and a black tourmaline. Keep it in your glove compartment and spray routinely, especially after a stressful drive or heated Bluetooth phone call!) Leaving crystals in your car is also a great way to keep the energy in check following the the blessing — Rose Quartz generates kindness and courtesy on the road while Aquamarine is the most traditional talisman for ensuring safe travel, Pietersite protects against adverse weather conditions, Black Tourmaline prevents theft and grounding crystals like Smoky Quartz and Hematite are an absolute necessity. You can also purchase wooden oil diffusers for your vehicle on Etsy which can be pinned to the car’s heater and filled with an essential oil of your choice; it not only keeps your car smelling delicious (without the chemicals a lot of synthetic fragrance devices have!) but engages the magick and energy of the plant spirit of the oil used (work with Sage for cleansing, Patchouli for grounding, Rosemary for protection and Jasmine or Lemon for concentration.) The Gemini New Moon is also a great time to cleanse your phone and other communication technologies using visualization techniques, sigils/reiki symbols, or the smoke of dried sage or your favorite incense.
Two-Week Astrology Report:
Sunday, May 28th: Venus returned home to earthy Taurus today where the Goddess of Love takes us through the rest of spring and into the first official week of Summer. Regardless of your current romantic situation, this three-week period holds the potential to ground and anchor erratic energy and highlight or fortify connections with deeper substance and worth (though steamy animalistic attractions are also undeniably emphasized, this stabilizing influence draws us closer to those who both share our life values and fuel hot pheromonal interplay.) It’s also effective for money magick (or cleaning up any financial disarray accumulated during the retrograde!) and putting extra effort and energy into skincare and other regular Venusian routines, and while there’s no bad astrological time to book a massage, tend to a garden, or fill your home with freshly-clipped lilacs, Venus in Taurus particularly favors sense-based pleasure in it’s many forms — order dessert, wear something soft, splurge on a high-quality luxury, and otherwise get creative about your everyday emphasis of beauty and pleasure.
Friday, June 3rd: Mercury stations direct in Taurus today (cue applause!) so situations which have been deadlocked or otherwise at a standstill are likely to receive a green-light as the optimal conditions unfold. If you’ve been holding off on any big purchases, investments, legal moves or interpersonal commitments, you can now move forward wisely and with a certain degree of newfound confidence. But it’s worth noting that the actual day of Mercury direct can sometimes be the weirdest of the entire three-week retrograde — don’t assume the Trickster Magician doesn’t have one more trick up his sleeve. Ideally, devote today to reflecting on and harvesting the wisdom of the last three weeks and journal on your recently-evolved understanding of Taurus-ruled themes (including but not limited to finances, material and emotional security, our personal values, resources and belongings, and our ability to amass wealth and secure a lasting sense of stability.)
Saturday, June 4th: Saturn turns retrograde in Aquarius until late October which isn’t a huge influence on our day-to-day living but is fab for restructuring, fortifying and reassessing. It’s an excellent five-month period to replace, update, or learn to more effectively utilize our personal technologies, to refine the evolving idea of our ideal future selves (regardless of age or life situation) and to get more innovative about channeling our unique gifts and personal talents into a niche community contribution. On a wider scale, we may experience a classic progress/science vs. ethics/spirituality moment (think Jurassic Park — hopefully minus the genetically-engineered t-rexes and raptors.) Especially in the forward-focused and progressive sign of Aquarius, stern Saturn wants to remind us that not all radical change or human advancement is good, necessary or beneficial. Unintended consequences of new technologies or discoveries could become apparent over the next few months but ideally, we smooth out the kinks during the retrograde and forge ahead with cool new developments and a matured sense of how to use them come November.
Tuesday, June 7th: Today is the Waxing Quarter Moon in Virgo — work with it by conducting a thorough spring clean, energizing and fortifying an existing health regimen or cultivating new wellness systems and strategies whether that involves changing gyms, updating your workout wear, adding a new supplement or sneaking in healthy alternatives to your snack-night favorites. Note that today is not the time for implementing fast hacks or attempting sneaky short cuts — the Virgo moon rewards a commitment to quality, an eye for detail and the eager willingness to put in the time. Manifest success by aligning to the Virgoan vibe of humble servitude and honing your personal work ethic.
Friday, June 10th: Mercury and Pluto Trine, the final in a series of three over the last several weeks (the first took place before Mercury turned retrograde, and the other was during the actual event when the Trickster God regressed back to Taurus.) But today’s third and final of this series is the most empowering, amplifying investigative and analytical abilities and laying the groundwork for a game-changing mindset shift, probably related to whatever surfaced for examination mid-retrograde. It’s an excellent day to excavate an old, outdated or disempowering belief system, and you’ll notice that even mundane/obligatory chat and casual everyday banter feels a little more deeply rooted in authenticity, enriched by a sense of honest vulnerability and steeped in a mutual desire to actually connect.
Saturday, June 11th: Venus and Uranus conjunct in Taurus today, an opportunity for a sudden style, beauty, self-care or aesthetic revamp and a catalyst for the swift evolution of a relationship’s terms, circumstances or protocol. The good news is that it’s innately helpful (even if this isn’t immediately apparent) but admittedly it can be a bit destabilizing; if we’ve been half-asleep at the wheel or outright complacent in the Venusian realms of finances, beauty, self-care or romance, seismic inner shifts could jolt us awake and require us to suddenly evolve with the rapidly-changing terrain — we could suddenly realize that we’ve long outgrown a relationship connection, hair color or financial strategy, for example, or that our needs in one of these areas have suddenly changed dramatically, prompting the need for a swift recalibration. The perpetual solution to finding our footing within a Uranus transit is the willingness to re-meet ourselves (and anyone else involved) post-update and without expectation or hefty emotional pull, but if the instability becomes anxiety-inducing, seek refuge within Taurean pleasures like gardening, comfort food or scoring extra cash. And if your finances, romantic vibe or personal aesthetic is in known need of a Uranian overhaul, consider this stagnancy-squelching astro right on time — anything stale, outdated or simply antithetical to your personal growth is instantly obliterated as fresh new options become available.
Monday, June 13th: Mercury re-enters his ruling sign of the Twins where he remains until early July. Especially post-retro, the Trickster God functions especially well in the zodiac’s mutable air sign: the next three weeks are a time of heightened eloquence and sociability, clear communication, superior mental function and easeful, breezy movement. It’s a good time to learn a new language, skill or mental discipline, and projects or tasks which benefit from above-average mental competence and a lighthearted sense of adaptability, or require a certain level of multi-tasking and diplomatic communication, should be tackled now. Reaching out to acquaintances and those on the outskirts of your primary social group bodes well now, and it’s also good astro for reviving an old friendship with a casual DM or coffee invite (or taking measures to magnetize new pals.) Work with the moment’s favorable Mercurial vibe to obtain new contacts and connections, to refresh and revive your mental faculties, communication strategies and friendship alliances, to broaden and enrich your social circle and to better access the always-relevant haute Gemini qualities of charm, wit and curiosity.
Tarot Card for the Gemini New Moon: The Page of Pentacles/The Star!
Our Tarot Card for the Gemini Moon Cycle (pulled from The Jane Austen Tarot by Jacqui Oakley) is the Jack (or Page) of Pentacles, which doubles in this particular deck as The Star. The Star is a card of deep emotional healing, integration and transformation, while The Page of Pentacles represents a moment of feeling deeply connected to the essence of oneself. As a highly-aware person (which, if you’re reading this, I know you are!), you’ve probably noticed that there are some days wherein you feel really anchored within yourself not just in a healthy egoic way, but in the larger sense of knowing who you are at your very core, of feeling deeply connected to your purpose and personhood and aware of your contributions and capability. This is what it feels like to embody the Page of Pentacles and while sometimes we wake up in the morning able to effortlessly access this energy, there are undoubtedly times where we find ourselves needing to fight off a looming sense of feeling faraway from our essence and unclear on our purpose (and sometimes, we might even feel unsure of whether we’re actually a person.) Thankfully, we can ground and re-align into this earthy, confident energy anytime by getting curious (which seems to be a theme this Gemini Season!) and asking ourselves questions about who we think we are, who we wish to be and what conditions seem to be optimal for the cultivation of this deep connection to our personhood. What are you doing in the moments of feeling most deeply connected to, and aware of, your unique essence? Are you putting on lipstick? Typing behind a laptop? Hiking a mountain? Making love to your partner? Pulling this card for the Gemini Moon Cycle indicates opportunities for clarity and empowerment around this knowledge, and it’s a beautiful time to set intentions around cultivating greater confidence in ourselves and our earthly identity. I love the fact that the creator of this deck combined the Page of Pentacles and the Star — it’s an interesting creative choice, and one that reveals her superior understanding of the Tarot. The Star is about integrating lost, fragmented or broken aspects of our nature or being — something we must innately do in order to cultivate a holistic, accurate and authentic sense of self. The Page of Pentacles indicates an opportunity this Gemini New Moon to figure out what really makes us ourselves — it’s the beginning of a period of being re-acquainted with who we are, re-meeting ourselves and establishing a new, clear set of goals and values. If you don’t know where to start, lean into the energy of the Star and ask yourself if there are any aspects of your nature in need of healing, re-integration or full-on psychic surgery. If so, devote the next four weeks to figuring out how to nurture and heal, and then synergize and integrate all your fragmented parts and pieces so you can allow your juicy, complex and unique essence to shine through.
Journal Prompt:
Yes, that’s hardened candle spell-wax affixed to my BOS and no, the adorable photobomb wasn’t planned but isn’t my fur-son photogenic!?
Astrologers often say that Gemini Sun/Moon/Rising people are actually inhibited by at least two different personalities (which probably sounds familiar if you know/love/are one!) and while it’s true that those born under this mutable air sign are uniquely fab at synergizing their paradoxes and leading with their multi-faceted nature, a vast multitude of highly complex archetypes and seemingly opposing polarities actually inhabit us all. The Gemini New Moon is a fantastic time to journal about the ways in which we express and experience a sense of duality in our own lives. In my experience, a big secret behind the charm and charisma we associate with this interpersonally-savvy sign is that they allow themselves to be complex without trying to stuff themselves into particular boxes, labels or ultra-specific ideas about who they are. Especially with the pressure of having a well-curated social media platform, a lot of us feel the need to slap on a specific brand or persona and run with it, but Gemini Season reminds us that at our core, we’re a lot less tidy. Are there ways in which you tend to curb or downplay your own innate complexity, duality or paradoxical nature? What are the ways in which you’re a sometimes-contradictory paradox, even to yourself? Are there old ideas about who you are and what you’re allowed to do that it’s time to leave behind? If you can, write about a few of the most outspoken archetypes which comprise your being, especially if they sometimes feel at odds (and if you’re feeling really creative, assign them names, color correspondences and/or distinct personalities!) Are there specific people or groups who elicit or accentuate specific aspects of your persona, in ways you interpret to be positive or negative? And most importantly, how can you allow these seemingly warring aspects of your nature to co-exist within the same space and even express themselves simultaneously, giving others a sacred glimpse into your full complexity and brilliance?
Happy New Moon and Memorial Day! Enjoy the day!
