A Pisces Season Glamour Spell💎
Hey witches!
With Neptune strong in the cosmos this month (and pretty much everything in Pisces), I’ve been thinking a lot about glamour magick. A glamour spell is any ritual which helps us cast a person, object or concept (including ourselves!) in the light we’d like it to be seen (and it’s the specialty of Neptune. We can usually blame this planet when we’re lured into an ill-calculated romance or a risky spending venture – but it’s as much associated with beauty, imagination and enchantment as it is deception, beguilement and mad gambles.) While glamour spells have a bad reputation – and of course, they can be used to deceive or manipulate (think the sleazy car salesmen or vibe vampire ex) -- they’re also empowering, uplifting and even therapeutic. When we take control of the perception others have of us (with our personal style and self-adornment), curate a sales pitch or tend to our social media presence, we’re conducting an *ethical* and potent glamour spell! Whether our intention is to magnetize specific people or opportunities (like updating your LinkedIn profile or conjuring a lover for the evening on Tinder) or it’s more about co-creating a broader image more generally (i.e. ghost writing, PR or drag), glamour spells allow us to play with different facets of our nature (all rooted in truth and integrity -- which is always the key to ethical spell-work.) As a busy modern witch, I’m most interested in spells which intertwine with my daily life and routines – and TBH, we conduct glamour spells all the time (and often quite unconsciously.) But when we’re clear about what our intentions are, the magick is supercharged. Think about the kinds of glamour spells you routinely perform, whether consciously or unconsciously. How can you infuse them with greater intention (or tap into the intention that’s already there?) Sending a hilariously distorted Snapchat selfie to your bestie is a spell for joy, laughter and connection; selling a customer on a vintage Napa cab is a spell to enhance their dining experience. But the most routine glamour spell we conduct happens alongside our morning coffee! When we get ready for the day -- perusing the closet for the day’s ‘fit, applying lip gloss and round-brushing unruly morning bangs – we’re working *seriously* powerful magick!
Think about it: Regardless of what your self-adornment routine looks like (and how minimal it may be), your favorite blue shirt or lucky Levi’s alter the way you feel (which then informs how you interact with the world around you, setting the tone for every interaction you have and coloring the vibe throughout your day.) Using color, accessories, make-up and style, we convey who we are each day – what mood we’re in, what we’re available for, and what we are (or are not) receptive to. Our style and self-adornment can deflect unwanted energy and attention (or conversely, it can help draw *our* people to us!) Our looks affirm the beliefs we hold about ourselves, entrenching them more deeply or challenging them, helping us explore the limits of who we are and curate liberating, playful new identities. Most importantly, self-adornment is an empowering act of personal autonomy, allowing us to co-create an image and take control of the way we’re perceived. When we choose whether or not to wear makeup, we’re exercising our right to bold self-expression (and even if you aren’t contouring like Trixie Mattel, your bare face is still a revolution – because it’s your choice!) By getting ready for the day – empowering yourself with garments, jewelry, accessories and/or color -- you’re curating an image and stepping into whatever aspect of your nature you’d like to lead with (like RuPaul says, we’re all born naked and the rest is drag!) Again, we do this without thinking: When preparing for a job interview, we select colors, garments and accessories we feel powerful and professional in. A polished black blazer, an understated onyx ring or a pair of chic loafers intuitively convey groundedness, self-discipline and authority; if you’re tackling a daunting to-do list or facing off with adversity, empowering platform combat boots pack the perfect amount of attitude. You’ll intuitively reach for a totally different style on a first date (probably sporting something you feel sexy, playful and receptive in -- for me, that’s a flirty mini-skirt or a bold statement pant and stilettos for more formal outings!) We subconsciously conjure energy and set intentions with our outfits daily, but getting dressed becomes a spell when we clarify *how* we’d like to feel (and select styles, colors and accessories which support us in those intentions.) This will change daily – and different moods, occasions, weather patterns and even astrology will significantly affect what we feel our best in (more on this in a moment!) But whether your self-adornment routine is extensive (or you’re simply a “top-feeder,” grabbing whatever band tee you see first!) my invitation is to acknowledge that slithering into your favorite nylons -- or a simple swipe of your mascara wand – co-creates the day/experience you’re about to have (and that – by definition – is magick!)
While we can work with our clothing, makeup and jewelry to connect with our desires and set intentions for the day, we can also use these tools to ground into the moment’s astrology. As she waxes and wanes, the moon spends 2-3 days in each sign (the four-week Gregorian “moonth” is based on the moon’s 28-ish day cycle!) The moment’s moon sign is the collective vibe or mood – while there may be other (more significant) planetary transits occurring, the moon’s journey through each sign reliably sets the emotional scene for the day (and strongly informs whether we crave compliments and attention – like under a dazzling Leo Moon -- or wish to slither through the world unseen, like when the moon transits Scorpio or Cancer.) Think about it: Some days, you’re in the mood for bold looks and edgy ensembles: Other days, an understated vibe feels more you. Begin tracking the moon’s transits and I promise you’ll see a clear pattern emerge!
One of the more common questions I get is how to practically connect with the day’s lunar placement – and the truth is, we don’t have to work that hard to ground into the moment’s moon sign. It’s already setting a certain tone for our day, inspiring what we feel intuitively called to and fulfilled by. One of the most intuitive lunar embodiment practices is simply allowing the moment’s moon sign to inspire our outfit choices and self-adornment (since getting dressed is already something we do daily!) We all have the archetypal energies of each of the twelve signs within us (even if it’s only a miniscule component of our astrological makeup) – using clothing and color to tap into those aspects of our nature is fun, healing, and alchemical (and it feels good if based on the moon’s movements, aligning us subconsciously with the collective mood of the day!) It also aligns our magick to the natural world – a bold red lip when the moon transits Aries is a spell for confidence, self-assurance and assertiveness, while wearing a Charoite ring during the Sag Moon helps us draw upon it’s vibe of spontaneity and playfulness. If you’ve ever approached your closet and felt totally uninspired, consulting the day’s moon sign is stimulating, inspiring, and can direct you toward a ‘fit you’ll love (and feel magickally supported in!)
Here's my guide for self-adorning based on the moon’s zodiac placement – as always, takes what resonates and leave the rest. As a really fun glamour spell, light a candle (something floral and/or refreshing) and pull everything out of your closet. Give it a good physical and energetic cleanse (preferably using incense smoke or a room clearing spray – you can purchase these from a witch you trust or mix up your own using essential oils like sage, rosemary, and lemon!) As you inspect each article of clothing, take this time to place anything you’ve outgrown or no longer wear lovingly into a “donate” pile (at the time of my writing, it’s Venus Retrograde which is the perfect time to do this!) Then, curate your own list of which garments feel connected to different astrological energies. Maybe to you, your lavender pants scream PISCES (as most pastel shades traditionally do!), while your leather mini-skirt seems perfect for the Scorpio Moon. Open the “Notes” app on your phone (or your physical Book of Shadows) and create a list of ‘fits for each moon sign (and why stop there? You can do this with nail or lip colors and jewelry!) Each morning, make getting ready a spell by asking yourself three questions: 1.) How do I feel right now? 2.) How do I want to feel today? And 3.) What sign is the moon in?* Allow your responses to these three questions to guide your self-adornment and watch the magick unfold!

When the moon is in Aries…
🔥Accentuate your face shape with a bold statement hat (Aries rules the head & cranium!)
🔥Wear warming, fiery colors like dark yellow, bright red or deep scarlet (a red lip or nails most definitely count!)
🔥Ruby, carnelian or tiger’s eye jewelry is a spell for confidence & self-assurance, helping you tap into Arian vitality and ambition to power through the day’s obstacles!
🔥Reach for garments which (to you) feel empowering and don’t shy away from anything that packs attitude (think leather jackets, fishnet nylons, stilettos, destroyed jeans, or Doc Marten platform combat boots.)
🔥This transit can find us on the go – reach for garments which support efficiency and haste (like stylish sneakers or your favorite leggings!) and avoid anything which slows you down (i.e. excessively baggy or restrictive clothing, or ‘fits that are difficult to move around in.)

When the moon is in Taurus…
🌳Comfort is key so select anything with a fabric and fit which feels good on your skin –silk or soft, luxurious cotton and loose, relaxed-fitting garments are ideal (if it’s scratchy, rough or too tight, it’s a hard no under this tactile moon! Sensory pleasure is half the look.)
🌳We’re more quality-conscious and sustainability-aware when the moon transits Taurus: Spring for durable, made-to-last garments and footwear. If the moon is waxing, this is a great transit for shopping since our eye for quality and value are on point (while if the moon is waning or dark, it’s a great transit for purging the closet of anything itchy, uncomfortable or ill-fitting.)
🌳This is an excellent moon for incorporating texture – think tassels, faux fur, or other fun visual elements!
🌳We feel our best in earthy tones during the Taurus Moon (and most especially green — from deep forest to light earthy hues. Wearing it is a prosperity spell under this moon and don’t be afraid to layer different shades!)
🌳Wear flowy goddess attire (maxi skirts, dresses), stone jewelry that’s copper-based (i.e. chrysocolla, malachite) & cozy, slouchy socks!
🌳If you have jewelry which incorporates plant matter – terrarium earrings with leaves or herbs encased inside, for example – bust ‘em out for the Taurus Moon!
When the moon is in Gemini…
👯♀️Wear your favorite graphic tee (bonus points if it states an affirmation you’d like to make true or a statement you’re aligned with– words are more powerful under a Gemini Moon!) It’s also a great lunar transit for a band tee or any article of clothing which doubles as a conversation starter!
👯♀️Bust out your favorite leggings, sweatpants & athletic wear (because those mutable vibes have us moving!)
👯♀️Don’t shy away from busier looks than you’d normally select – think asymmetrical hemlines, dramatic layering, patterns, prints & bold silhouettes (& this is an excellent moon for playing with mismatching – give the people visual intrigue!)
👯♀️Look around at what’s trending – a skincare hack, nail color or silhouette your go-to style icons have been showcasing-- and try it on for size! (We feel our best under a Gemini Moon when we’re up-to-date on what’s current/on trend– politically, technologically and yes, cosmetically/stylistically!)
👯♀️Wearing yellow (any shade, from deep mustard to light pastel) is a spell for mental clarity and productive communication under a Gemini Moon!
👯♀️Converse sneakers are a Gemini Moon staple!

When the moon is in Cancer…
🌝Wear moonstone, vanilla, pearls, silver jewelry and/or something white (for connection to your intuition/moon magick!)
🌝Comfort first! This is an ideal moon for cozy oversized sweaters, layers (to serve as your stylized “crab shell” – even if you just tie a flannel around your waste!), stylish sweatpants and relaxed, loose-fitting clothing. Even if you don’t *think* you’ll need it, grab a shawl or jacket on your way out the door – when you put it on, it’s a spell for becoming less visible (ideal if you’d like to stay hidden for a clandestine dinner date or a quiet solo cocktail.)
🌝Rock the “mom” or boyfriend jeans!
🌝Even if you don’t usually, this is an excellent lunar transit for rocking a bare face (or generally following the less-is-more makeup rule!)

When the moon is in Leo…
☀Wear at least one yellow garment or accessory (to channel solar vibes – aka energy, exuberance, joy and optimism.)
☀Solar talismans – i.e., a sun-shaped pendant or ring – are a boost of vitality under a Leo Moon. If you have any floral dresses or skirts featuring marigolds or sunflowers, bust those out under this moon!
☀Don’t be afraid to stun! When the moon transits Leo, our instinct is to slay – spring for head-turning looks which might seem gaudy or over-the-top during other lunar transits (leopard print, sequins, faux fur, a bold lip, BIG statement jewelry and nail/eye/face glitter.)
☀We’re more aware of our hair under the Leo Moon, so this isn’t the time to neglect your sacred strands! If it’s *probably* a hair washing day, don’t spring for the Batiste and a messy bun – give those locks a thorough wash and blow dry and style however you most prefer (and don’t be scared of volume!) Flat, greasy strands (or bangs which don’t sit quite right) weigh on our psyche when the moon transits Leo!

When the moon in is in Virgo…
🌿Think freshly-pressed clothing, neutral nails, matching sets, & oxford shoes with crisp white socks
🌿Spring for minimalism, denim, & your favorite glasses *as* an accessory (blazers, loafers, bright white shoes & fresh/clean/natural fragrances are also Virgo Moon staples!)
🌿Wear blue during this transit – from deep navy to pastel sky blue – as a soothing spell for calm, patience & Virgoan wisdom (we also feel our best in clean, earthy neutrals during this transit.)
When the moon is in Libra…
🌺Pay attention to your scent scheme! Whatever essential oil blend/perfume you select is half the look during this transit (this is also true under the Scorpio, Taurus and Virgo Moons -- especially if Mercury is also in any of these signs!) This an ideal moon to rethink your scentscape, ensuring your go-to fragrance still aligns with your psyche (and traditionally, floral notes ground us into the Libra Moon!)
🌺Wear jewelry featuring copper derivatives (chrysocolla, malachite) to call upon Libra’s ruling goddess Venus (rose quartz and rhodochrosite are also powerful talismans for this moon, drawing in kindness & positive interactions!)
🌺Embrace your inner high femme during this transit with all shades of pink (wearing it is a spell for love & receptivity!): Think also tuille (a la Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex & The City intro), flirty dresses & skirts of all lengths, floral prints & rose quartz nails
🌺Have an iconic “little black dress” moment under a Libra Moon!

When the moon is in Scorpio…
💀Our instinct during a Scorpio Moon is to either a.) seduce everyone we encounter or b.) slink under the radar. All black ‘fits help us achieve both, maximizing sex appeal while also serving as a spell for protection when we’d rather not be seen (like when we’re running to the grocery store and would rather skip the small talk.)
💀Lead unapologetically with your sexuality during this transit: Think black coffin nails, thigh high boots, black corsets, 90s chokers, cat eye sunglasses, leather, and a bold plum statement lip!
💀Wear trench coats (for holding all your secrets and projecting enigmatic inscrutability.)
💀This Plutonic moon is perfect for resurrecting vintage looks (if the moon is waxing and harmonizes with Venus, get thee to your local thrift shop — it’s an ideal transit for scoring solid secondhand finds!) If the moon is waning in Scorpio, stage a power-purge of your closet!
When the moon is in Sagittarius…
🏹We crave freedom and space when the moon transits Sag, so retire your black leather skirt ‘till the next Scorpio moon and spring for something which allows for plenty of physical movement (wearing clothes you can do anything in — from a cartwheel to a job interview — is a spell for staying open to unexpected opportunities!) Think flannel, boots, blazers, and elevated athletic wear.
🏹Because this transit is about busting through limits and breaking free from expectations, the waning Sag moon is excellent for combing through your closet (or your vanity, or jewelry box) and donating anything which feels restrictive or conforms you to certain beauty standards which don’t resonate. If it doesn’t feel like you — if it isn’t freeing and exhilarating to wear — you’ll notice during this moon!
🏹Likewise, are there any weird rules you impose upon yourself? It’s not difficult to internalize society’s super constrictive beauty standards! If you’ve convinced yourself you can’t wear yellow because of your fair olive undertone — or recall being made fun of for mismatching prints in seventh grade, or wearing leather before sunset (yes, these are autobiographical!) — this is an excellent moon to bust out of those limiting beliefs or pain-points! Experiment with colors, prints, patterns, layering, and asymmetrical hemlines. Play with style during this moon, and let it be fun!
🏹Wear purple during this transit — from light lavender to deep plum. My go-to Sag Moon accent is my Charoite ring, a stone which facilitates spontaneity and lightheartedness (perfect for tapping into the energy of this playful moon!)
When the moon is in Capricorn…
🗻Spring for timeless and true – whatever that means for you! (Examples: Denim, a basic white crew neck tee, a crisp button-up, loafers, baseball cap, hoop earrings, a classic red lip, all black ‘fits, pleated tennis skirts.) We tend to feel our best during this transit in more conservative looks centered around our longtime staples!
🗻Wear anything which projects authority and self-discipline – i.e. a chic boxy blazer, a black onyx ring!

When the moon is in Aquarius…
⚡Spring for looks which verge on “edgier” than you’re typically comfortable with – vibrant-colored garments and makeup, bold silhouettes, funky (or mismatching) prints, chunky platforms and (generally) androgyny! We tend to feel our best under an Aquarius moon when we’re pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone (and can pull off edgier styles under this moon than others!)
⚡The vibe is bold & futuristic (think: trends which aren’t even here yet)
⚡Wear turquoise rings, electric blue & anything iridescent!
⚡Style Icons: Billie Eilish, Grimes, Kristen Stewart
When the moon is in Pisces…
💦Wear seafoam green (a spell for renewal and rejuvenation), light matcha (for healing) anything pastel & aquamarine (the color and/or the stone!)
💦Channel feminine archetypal energies like Queen of Cups, Faerie Princess/Mermaid/Siren vibes via feminine accents, textures, fabrics & silhouettes: Think Ruffles, frills, silk, satin, flowy goddess dresses, pearls, feminine blouses & kimonos
💦Anoint with floral, feminine fragrances (especially jasmine or lotus blossom!)
💦Pisces is the ruling sign of Neptune, so don’t forget to play! Have fun with your make-up, outfit ensembles & jewelry, incorporating your imagination (& integrating fantastical elements if inspired!)
💦Leave the “no make-up” make-up look for the Cancer Moon — have fun with bold, creative & imaginative eyeshadow pallets & face accents!
